Building a Household for a God Directed Impact

Building a Household for a God Directed Impact

You might say that most houses newly built look pretty good, but the test of materials and quality work comes years later as the house becomes people and weather tested.  So much of what our culture is excited about is new and present, while follow up stories often get little attention, yet as followers of Christ we should be interested more in what lasts in impact and what pleases God.  We have just concluded a study on Joshua’s pledge, “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord!” and what that looks like for our own homes and local church.  Consider these five principles as you look at the foundation and direction of our own homes and local church engagement:

  • A Home saturated by God’s Grace, Forgiveness and Mercy - Because we are a sin infected people, the grace of God must reign and be taught clearly that many might be reconciled to God.
  • A Home that practices loving and consistent discipline and correction. If we are to grow in Grace, we must learn to put off and put away even while our culture calls us only to put on & follow our desires. Hebrews 12:5-11
  • A Home vitally connected to and engaged in the Body of Christ. To grow in spiritual maturity, a believer and home must be connected and participating in a healthy Biblical local church.  Hebrews 10:19-25
  • God has chosen courageous and loving parents to build a home that knows and honors God. Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:5-9
  • Our Aspiration is to build a home that trains for a long term Gospel impact. God has designed that our homes not only produce babies (churches- new converts), but that we grow and lead children to know God and make Him known.

We are all apart of households and if Christ followers we should be a part of a local church family.  Are we consciously considering and planning what kind of foundation we are laying and building for?  Our recent series, As for Me and My House, is all available online and notes could be provided to help apply these principles for the Scriptures.  The storms of our world and the fallout from rejecting God and His Word are increasing, but what an opportunity to make the Grace and Hope in Christ known in these days.
